Ang Ku Kueh
A sticky Chinese cake, usu. red in colour and shaped like a tortoise shell, filled with green bean paste.
Bak Kut Teh
A Chinese clear stew consisting of pork ribs cooked with herbs, garlic, soya sauce, etc., often garnished with pieces of Taupok.
Chwee Kueh
A steamed, round, flat, white Chinese cake made of rice flour, often eaten with Chye Poh.
Fishball
A Chinese food item consisting of a mixture of minced fish and flour shaped into a ball and boiled till firm, often eaten in soup, served with noodles, etc.
Laksa
A Peranakan dish consisting of thick rice noodles with beansprouts, cockles, fishballs, Taupok (dried beancurd), prawns, etc., in a spicy yellow coconut-milk soup flavoured with ingredients such as Belacan, candlenuts, chilli, galangal, garlic, lemongrass and shallots.
Milo Dinosaur
An iced milk-based beverage of Milo topped with Milo powder sprinkled on the surface.
Nasi Lemak
A Malay dish consisting of fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf. Usually served with an omelette, fried fish or Otak-Otak, deep-fried Ikan Bilis and Sambal.
Popiah
A Chinese dish consisting of a thin round flour pancake which is spread with shredded radish and carrot, lettuce, minced pork, egg omelette, crushed peanuts, garlic, sweet sauce, chilli sauce, etc., then rolled up like a spring roll.
Rojak
A Malay salad-like dish containing cucumber, beancurd, etc., with a dressing of a sweet black sauce, prawn paste and chopped peanuts.
Satay
A Malay dish consisting of pieces of meat marinated in various spices, placed on wooden skewers (Satay Sticks) and barbequed over a charcoal fire.
Mee Soto
A Malay dish consisting of shredded chicken, bean sprouts and noodles in a curry-flavoured soup.
Ketupat
Rice cooked in a packet or container made of woven coconut leaves
Kopi
Coffee, with milk and sugar, or sweetened condensed milk.
Teh
Tea, with milk and sugar, or sweetened condensed milk.
Roti Prata
A round bread or cake of unleavened wheat flour fried in ghee or oil on a griddle, traditionally eaten with curry.
Bak Chor Mee
A Teochew dish consisting of noodles with minced pork.
Bandung
A Malay milk drink flavoured with rose syrup.
Belacan
An ingredient consisting of a paste of prawns and small fish, used in commonly Malay dishes and as a relish for curry.
Ngoh Hiang
A type of Chinese food consisting of minced pork and prawn flavoured with Five-Spice Powder, rolled inside a beancurd skin and deep-fried.
Char Siew Pau
A dimsum in the form of a white steamed bun filled with minced char siew (boneless lean pork, seasoned with various ingredients & spices and barbequed or roasted).
You Tiao
A deep-fried dough stick - popularly eaten with porridge or coffee over breakfast.
Bak Kwa
A Chinese dish consisting of slices of barbequed glazed pork.
